WHY IBMYP? |
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), designed to be inclusive across the entire school, allows students to build on their personal strengths and to embrace challenges in subjects in which they may not excel. MYP students, which will be ALL 9th and 10th grade students, are offered the opportunity to develop their potential, to explore their own learning preferences, to take appropriate risks, and to reflect on, and develop, a strong sense of personal identity.
|
The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents.
The MYP requires at least 50 hours of teaching time for each subject group, in each year of the programme. In the final two years of the programme, carefully-defined subject group flexibility allows students to meet local requirements and personal learning goals. MYP is an approach to teaching and learning based on the standards of international education. At Westlake High School, teachers will follow the Georgia Standards of Excellence/GPS and infuse the IBMYP philosophy and practices to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills students need to participate effectively in life for them to succeed in the 21st Century. |
The MYP teaches tools for lifelong learning and fosters responsible attitudes that help students discover how to use what they learn to take principled action.
